Welcome to Cumarsáid Group.

What is a Cumarsáid?

Well, it’s not a “thing.” It’s a concept. Cumarsáid, in Gaelic, means “communication.” Communication is the entire purpose of my company. As a proud Irishman, I decided to set the bar high and name my company in the language familiar to Ireland’s greatest writers (think Joyce, Wilde, Yeats, Brennan, O’Sullivan, Stoker). I aim to emulate their craft, too, with communications from the heart and to the hearts of audiences far and wide.

I come from the Murphys, McGinnises, Lynches and O’Connells. I am a direct descendant of Daniel O’Connell. Known as the “Great Liberator,” he was a peaceful 19th century revolutionary who befriended Frederick Douglass. My other Irish hero is my dad, Jim Murphy, who taught me to write, and to love it. I could easily add him to the list of great Irish writers above, but he would be embarrassed.

It is never the smartest person who wins the day, but the person who can communicate most effectively. And that, in a nutshell, is what I help my clients to do − present their brand, their case or their principles to a wider world, in a manner that moves their audience along a continuum, from “opposition” to “support,” or from “skepticism” to “tell me more.”

Communication takes many forms. In addition to writing, powerful messages can be conveyed through photography and the spoken word.

I have been writing and speaking professionally for more than 40 years, first as a television journalist, then as a Fortune 500 communications executive. I served 16 years as a member of the Indiana General Assembly. Today I am owner of Cumarsáid Group, Inc. We help a variety of clients to achieve their communications goals, sharing a bit of “Craic” along the way.
